Rushborough Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions from its own operations by 2030. Since then, we have reduced our operational emissions by 34%, invested in LED street lighting, installed solar panels on council buildings, and expanded our electric vehicle fleet.

But there is more to do — both within the Council and across the wider borough. Our new Draft Climate and Environment Strategy sets out how we plan to cut emissions further, adapt to the effects of climate change, protect and improve biodiversity, and support residents and businesses to make greener choices.

The draft strategy covers five priority areas:

• Energy and buildings
• Transport and air quality
• Green spaces and biodiversity
• Waste reduction and circular economy
• Community action and engagement

This consultation is open from 3 February to 28 March 2025. Responses will inform the final strategy, which is expected to be adopted by Cabinet in June 2025. Paper copies of the strategy and this survey are available at Rushborough Central Library and all community hubs.
